David Parker is an internationally recognised property industry expert and highly regarded property academic, being a director and adviser to property investment groups including listed real estate investment trusts (REITs), unlisted funds and private property businesses.
Dr Parker is currently an Adjunct Professor of Property at the University of Queensland and at the University of Technology Sydney, a Visiting Fellow at the University of Ulster and an Acting Commissioner of the Land and Environment Court in New South Wales.
With over 25 years experience in all aspects of property fund management, portfolio management, asset management and property management as well as in property valuation, Dr Parker is also widely published in international academic and industry journals.
As Portfolio Manager, Property for Suncorp Metway Investment Management Limited, Dr Parker managed the strategic direction of the $1 billion direct property portfolio including unlisted and listed property trust products. An Associate Director of Schroders Property Fund, Dr Parker undertook fund, portfolio and asset management for a $0.5 billion national retail property portfolio and as Senior Investment Manager, Property for ANZ Funds Management, managed unlisted and listed direct property products and over $1 billion in CMBS products.
Being the Director of the Property Solutions Group for Cap Gemini Ernst and Young, Dr Parker managed the implementation of IT solutions for major property businesses in the Asia Pacific region. Following his design and implementation of a transformational change programme, as General Manager of the Australian Valuation Office Dr Parker increased revenue by 28% and raised profit by 627%.
Dr Parker's professional qualifications include being a fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, the Australian Property Institute, the Financial Services Institute of Australasia and the Australian Institute of Management and a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Dr Parker is a registered valuer and licensed real estate agent in both Queensland and New South Wales and recognised as an expert witness in the Supreme Court of New South Wales.
A member of the Pacific Rim, American and European Real Estate Societies, the American Real Estate and Urban Economics Association and the UK Society of Property Researchers, Dr Parker is currently the Global Vice Chairman of the RICS Commercial Markets Faculty Board, immediate Past President of the Pacific Rim Real Estate Society and a member of the Consultative Committee to the Australian Accounting Standards Board.
Dr Parker's academic qualifications include BSc (Hons), MComm and PhD degrees in property economics and an MBA from the Melbourne Business School. He is a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Property Research (UK) and the Pacific Rim Property Research Journal (Australia). Dr Parker's has made three keynote addresses to national and international conferences, given 42 industry conference papers, published 25 papers in refereed journals and 10 other journal articles, authored nine monographs, contributed to two books, written a six weekly opinion column for the "Australian" newspaper and his next book, Global Real Estate Investment Trusts: Analysis and Management, is due for publication in late 2009.
